Banging Wrenches
You don’t need a story to feel powerful
Take away my synesthesia —
everything will be exactly what it is.
The sound of the mallet will stop
tasting like the sting of motor oil.
The migrant mechanics lived
in mobile homes in our boat yard
during the high summer. One guy told me:
you don’t need a story to feel powerful.
What he meant was: Always carry a shovel,
ruin and replace the sand in a bid to get clean.
Your movement will leave a rainbow sheen
on water. Someone will call the EPA.
