Carried Away

It’s early afternoon in a downhill wind,
chimes tickling an empty street

where lemongrass whips an afternoon
scattering kaleidoscope reflections

of small moments now carried
in the private world of our minds.

There is nothing bigger than this
because this is big enough,

this crack in the pavement,
protecting the mud from our fossils.
