Table Guests

With stable bounty put in place

Midjourney art created by the author

There were a dozen kids this year,
a table built with bloodletting,
and some belonged to more of us —
some smiled and some were not enough.

The drinks were kept quite far away
adventuring some two by two
into the cold and back again
despite the scourge to feast on life.

We clung to our electric chairs
and gladly fed the huddle mass
with stable bounty put in place
by different names and different swords.

No one left estranged that day,
forever tied by thinnest thread,
a new hyphae signal race
to tell the world we come in peace.
